Meet our Team

The SmileSuite currently has 4 fully qualified registered specialists in orthodontics (braces), a fully qualified and registered specialist in periodontics (gum treatments) and dental surgeons who limit their practice to providing dental implants. Each specialist is a qualified dental surgeon (5 years at University plus practical experience) who has gone on to undertake extensive further training in their specialist branch of dentistry, and has passed additional professional examinations after qualifying as a dentist. Each Specialist is on the General Dental Council's Specialist Register and our dental implant surgeon is on the General Dental Council's list of general dentists.

Dr Darren Hills

BDS (Brist), MScD, FDSRCS (Eng), MOrthRCS (Eng), MOrthRCS (Edin)

Specialist Orthodontist (GDC No 63864)

Dr Hills is a registered Orthodontic Specialist with the General Dental Council, a member of the European and American Association of Orthodontists and a member of the British Orthodontic Society. Locally he serves as the Secretary of the British Dental Association of Bristol and Bath and sits on the Local Dental and Orthodontic Committees. He qualified as a dental surgeon in 1988 from Bristol University. After a series of hospital appointments (in the specialties of maxillofacial surgery and children's dentistry) and two spells in general practice, he embarked on a formal three year orthodontic training program at University of Wales, Cardiff which he completed in 1996 gaining two awards along the way. He then returned to Bristol to set up Bristol Orthodontics which has lead the way in Children’s Orthodontics in the Bristol area and continues to provide the majority of the care received today.

While working in both practices, he developed an interest and passion for treating adults and the additional challenges this presents. For over a decade, he has been a certified user of invisible braces (Invisalign and many lingual techniques) and has refined his skills to provide a wide range of treatment options for his adult patients. His enjoyment of Adult Orthodontics motivated him to open The SmileSuite, initially just a private orthodontic practice, in 2006. Over the years since, the practice has expanded in size and diversified to offering other specialist treatments.

Dr Hills has lectured on orthodontics both nationally and internationally and has won awards both individually and with the practice. He is now Clinical Director of a large group of 6 specialist practices and in 2012 was voted the 8th most influential private practitioner in the UK. In his spare time, he enjoys a variety of sporting activities, travelling and architecture.
