Meet our Team

The SmileSuite currently has 4 fully qualified registered specialists in orthodontics (braces), a fully qualified and registered specialist in periodontics (gum treatments) and dental surgeons who limit their practice to providing dental implants. Each specialist is a qualified dental surgeon (5 years at University plus practical experience) who has gone on to undertake extensive further training in their specialist branch of dentistry, and has passed additional professional examinations after qualifying as a dentist. Each Specialist is on the General Dental Council's Specialist Register and our dental implant surgeon is on the General Dental Council's list of general dentists.

Dr Darren Hills

BDS (Brist), MScD, FDSRCS (Eng), MOrthRCS (Eng), MOrthRCS (Edin)

Specialist Orthodontist (GDC No 63864)


Dr Hills is a registered Orthodontic Specialist with the General Dental Council, a member of the European and American Association of Orthodontists and a member of the British Orthodontic Society. Locally he serves as the Secretary of the British Dental Association of Bristol and Bath and sits on the Local Dental and Orthodontic Committees. He qualified as a dental surgeon in 1988 from Bristol University. After a series of hospital appointments (in the specialties of maxillofacial surgery and children's dentistry) and two spells in general practice, he embarked on a formal three year orthodontic training program at University of Wales, Cardiff which he completed in 1996 gaining two awards along the way. He then returned to Bristol to set up Bristol Orthodontics which has lead the way in Children’s Orthodontics in the Bristol area and continues to provide the majority of the care received today.


While working in both practices, he developed an interest and passion for treating adults and the additional challenges this presents. For over a decade, he has been a certified user of invisible braces (Invisalign and many lingual techniques) and has refined his skills to provide a wide range of treatment options for his adult patients. His enjoyment of Adult Orthodontics motivated him to open The SmileSuite, initially just a private orthodontic practice, in 2006. Over the years since, the practice has expanded in size and diversified to offering other specialist treatments.


Dr Hills has lectured on orthodontics both nationally and internationally and has won awards both individually and with the practice. He is now Clinical Director of a large group of 6 specialist practices and in 2012 was voted the 8th most influential private practitioner in the UK. In his spare time, he enjoys a variety of sporting activities, travelling and architecture.

Dr Peter Thomas

BDS (Lon), FDSRCS (Eng), MOrthRCS (Edin), MSc (Bris)

Specialist Orthodontist (GDC No 65064)

Dr Thomas qualified as a dentist in 1989 from Guys Dental School in London. He then undertook a variety of jobs in dental teaching hospitals gaining experience in Children's Dentistry, Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery. He completed his 3 year post-graduate orthodontic training program in Bristol in 1996, gaining a national prize for the best two treated cases. He started working for Bristol Orthodontics in 1997 and works 4 days a week there and also uses some of that time to work for The SmileSuite, also situated in Wallace House.

Dr Nicky Henderson

BDS (Edin), MSc, FDSRCS (Eng), MOrth (Eng)

Specialist Orthodontist (GDC No 65336)

Dr Henderson completed her initial dental training at Edinburgh University and began her career as a hospital dentist at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. She then spent two years in New Zealand lecturing in oral surgery followed by a further two years treating children at the Bristol Dental Hospital.

In 1994 she gained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons and then spent a further three years in Orthodontics at the internationally renowned Eastman Postgraduate Institute, London. From there she moved on to achieve her Master of Orthodontics and Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons. Dr Henderson has published regularly in dental journals and has taught orthodontic postgraduates at Bristol Dental Hospital.

She was the principal orthodontist in a private practice, Valley Orthodontics (2005-2012) and is an invited speaker at national (British Orthodontic Society) and local level.  In 2008 Dr Henderson achieved a Cerfiticate in Lingual Orthodontics from Warwick University and has been a Platinum Status Invisalign Practitioner since 2010.

She enjoys walking in the Mendip Hills and going on adventures with her family in their caravan.

Dr Adrian Watts

As a GDC Registered Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Adrian is happy to receive referrals for implant dentistry and advanced prosthodontics

Adrian joined the SmileSuite in 2014, to replace the retiring Mr Watkinson. Adrian has been receiving referrals in Bristol since 1995, when he commenced his Consultant training programme at Bristol Dental School.

Adrian read dentistry at Guy’s Hospital, London, graduating in 1988. Having completed his Consultant in Restorative Dentistry training in Bristol Dental School in2001.  He  was awarded the prestigious one-year International Team for Implantology Oral Implantology Scholarship at Harvard School of Dental Medicine from 2001-2002.

Aside from private specialist referral practice Adrian maintains an NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry position at Cardiff Dental School where he is topic lead for implant dentistry and advanced prosthodontics, responsible training post-graduate dental surgeons to become specialists in prosthodontics and endodontics. Adrian is an examiner for the Diploma in Implant Dentistry at Royal College Surgeons in Edinburgh and an ITI Fellow by election. He continues to mentor post-doctoral dental surgeons embarking on a career in the restorative dentistry disciplines.

Dr Andrew Hall

Dental Implant Surgeon (GDC No 63246)


Dr Hall first qualified as a dentist in 1988 and went on to work in several hospital posts in the disciplines of Restorative Dentistry and Maxillo-Facial surgery and after building considerable experience passed the examinations to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1992.

Dr Hall then took up an academic post as a lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Bristol. He held this position for several years before moving in to private practice.

Dr Hall now limits his clinical practice to the provision of dental implants.  He has over 20 years of experience in this field and is experienced in the advanced aspects of implant provision including bone grafting surgery and computer guided implant surgery.  At the Smile Suite we have our own CT scanner in house, which is used to optimise the planning of our implant surgery.


Dr Hall is passionate about achieving the highest standards for all of his patients.  He uses the PRGF technique (Plasma Rich in Growth Factor) for enhancing the bodies' own natural healing mechanisms.  This significantly improves the healing after implant surgery and is now a routine part of our practice.


Dr Bindhu Koshy

Specialist Periodontist (GDC 83910)

Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry (Perio)

Dr.Bindhu Koshy has recently joined us to provide dedicated specialist periodontal services in the management of patients with periodontal diseases.

She gained her periodontal specialist qualification from the University of London in 2001, and then spent the next few years working at the Barts and the London NHS hospital in addition to Specialist Practice, building on her experience in patient management and research in the speciality of Periodontology.  

Since 2006, she took up an academic post as Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at Cardiff University where her career has focussed on research into identification of pathogenic mechanisms of periodontal destruction during periodontal disease and peri-implantitis, in addition to taking a lead role in major clinical trials with a view to developing biomarkers for periodontal diseases. She continues to make a major contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at UDH Cardiff, as well as provision of clinical service within Restorative Dentistry at UDH.

She holds a teaching qualification from Cardiff University, MPhil from Cardiff University, membership of the Royal College of Surgeons; she is a Fellow of the Higher Educational Academy and is on the GDC Specialist list in Periodontology.

Dr Koshy has presented her work both nationally and internationally and published in leading international periodontal journals. Her expertise covers all aspects of periodontics including nonsurgical and surgical management, regeneration, aesthetics, supportive periodontal therapy and is one of only a few clinicians to limit her practice solely to service limited to the specialist field of periodontics.

Her research background provides her with a good foundation and experience to integrate the scientific background to clinical situations.

Dr Koshy will be welcoming referrals and self-referrals for management of patients with periodontal diseases, second opinions in addition to providing specialised treatment protocol for the high-risk patients with a view to stabilising their periodontal condition and further monitoring them as required to achieve optimal dental health before discharging them back to the care of their general dentist.





Dr Bethan Lewis

Dr Lewis qualified as a dental surgeon in 1998 from Bristol University. After 1 year in general practice she worked for the following 3 years in the hospital dental service. Appointments included restorative dentistry, children’s dentistry, special needs dentistry, oral medicine and oral and maxillo-facial surgery. She completed her 3 year post-graduate training course in orthodontics at Cardiff University in 2005. Dr Lewis joined Bristol Orthodontics, in 2005, where she still works, and since Great George Street have moved to Wallace House with The SmileSuite, she is now also working under that brand.

Dr. Ali Al-Rikabi

Oral and Facial Surgeon (GMC Specialist list number: 7046951; GDC Reg No. 84797)

Ali was appointed as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Musgrove Park hospital in Taunton following an undergraduate training in both dentistry and medicine.
As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Ali carries out daily outpatients and inpatients’ surgical operations in the field of oral and facial surgery. Ali has a significant interest in facial aesthetics, oral surgery and dental implants that is supported by the rich training he received throughout his professional career.
Mr Al-Rikabi finished dentistry 1996 in Baghdad and worked as a dentist for 5 years.
In 2003, he worked as a resident oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Dudley and Wolverhampton, he gained the membership of the faculty of dental surgery from the Royal College and Surgeon of Glasgow in 2004 ( MFDS ). He obtained the international qualifying exam ( IQE ) for overseas dentist by the general dental council in Edinburgh in 2005.
The world of oral and facial surgery always fascinated him and he decided to complete his education as a specialist maxillofacial surgeon. In 2009, he finished studying medicine in Cardiff ( 2005- 2009), he then worked as a junior doctor in South Wales Hospitals in Cardiology, intensive care, vascular surgery, general surgery and ENT.
In 2010, Ali gained the membership of the faculty of Royal college of surgeons in Edinburgh ( MRCS ).
In 2011, he entered a higher specialist training in oral and maxillofacial surgery. This intense 5 years training allowed him the opportunity to become an expert in oral and facial surgery. The training was focused on oral and dental surgery, jaw corrective surgery, dental implants, facial aesthetic, and head and neck cancer surgery.
In October 2016 Ali successfully finished the oral and maxillofacial surgery training by obtaining the fellowship of the Royal college of surgeons in Dublin ( FRCS ) , through which he was awarded the certificate of completion of specialist training from the Royal College of Surgeons in February 2017 and became a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon. 

Dr. Andrei Dinu

Implant Surgeon (GDC No 198170)

Dr Dinu qualified as a dentist in 2005 in Romania and started practicing in private care since 2006.
He completed since further postgraduate studies at Universities from Romania, Germany and UK with main focus on dental implants, oral surgery and restorative treatments.
Andrei obtained a Dental Implants Diploma in 2007  and an Oral Surgery Diploma in 2018 as part of a Master of Science in Oral& Maxillofacial Surgery program.
Registered with the ITI (International Team of Implantology) he is a strong believer in evidence  based treatments, always keen to keep himself up to date and able to provide a high standard of care for his patients.
Majority of his time he dedicates providing dental implant treatments that include surgical and restorative.
With experience in a wide range of treatments from straightforward dental implant placement to bony ridge reconstructions and sinus lifting procedures, Andrei is able to restore simple to complex cases.
Since 2012, when he relocated to UK with his family, he has been receiving dental implant referrals from other dental clinicians in several practices across the south west of England and Wales.

Dr. Joanna Bonnick

BDS, MFDS RCS (Eng) MSc, MOrth Rcs (Eng)

Specialist Orthodontist (GDC No 79138)

Dr Bonnick qualified as a dentist in 2001 from Bristol University. She then worked as a general dentist for a year and spent 2 years in Oral Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics within hospital settings.
In 2004 Dr Bonnick embarked on a 3 year post-graduate Orthodontic training at the Eastman Dental Institute in London. She was awarded the MSc prize for her research project in 2006 and gained her Membership in Orthodontics in 2007.
Dr Bonnick returned to Bristol working in Specialist Practice for the past 10 years and recently joined Bristol Orthodontics in 2018 working 4 days a week.
Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children as well as skiing and Pilates. 

Ms Sam Evison

Treatment coordinator at The Smile Suite, Wallace House, Clifton, Bristol

Sam worked as a trained dental nurse in her home town in Taunton.
Sam has also experienced having fixed braces herself, so she understands first-hand the commitment of an orthodontic treatment plan and believes in the life changing impact of a confident, healthy smile.
Sam joined us from a high end dental clinic in Bath as a Head Dental Receptionist, she developed experience with putting anxious patients at ease, understanding patients concerns and expectations, explaining and informing patients of their cosmetic, restorative and alignment treatment options, and scheduling complex cases.
Sam is passionate about her role in the practice, ensuring a patient’s journey is tailored to the individual. She loves getting to know patients and ensuring that she is an approachable point of contact that is always able to help with any questions or concerns.
In her spare time Sam loves to travel and enjoys surfing most weekends. 

Yevedzo Manyarara

Dental Hygienist (GDC No: 272167)

Yevedzo has recently joined The SmileSuite following Gerry’s retirement.
She graduated from Teeside University with a first class honours degree, in BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene & Therapy.
As a GDC registered Dental Hygienist she is more than happy to see a wide range of patients via both self-referring or Dentist referrals.  Her skills include the treatment of gum disease, thorough scaling and polishing, and cosmetic stain removal for a whiter smile. She can offer fillings using high quality materials, whitening, dental radiographs, in addition to other treatments. She can treat both adults and children and has enthusiasm and an understanding and caring attitude to her work.
Her role and skills are varied and she provides the essential dental hygiene instruction and treatment to ensure that all our patients are provided with the skills to maintain a healthy mouth both during and after their orthodontic and implant treatment.
Yevedzo is an active member of the British Society of Dental Hygiene & Therapy (BSDHT). Taking great pride in providing the highest quality treatment and care to each and every patient, and endeavour to provide a pleasant dental experience.
In her spare time she enjoys going to the gym, travelling and particularly exploring the South West as she have recently relocated to Bristol from the Midlands.
